In the company's early years, even before
a factory was built, an Environmental Technology Research Center was established to engage in research and product and technology development.
Overview
Currently, Coway operates three R&D centers-its Environmental Technology Research Center, Quality Management Laboratory and Water Quality Analysis Center - focusing on developing environmentally - friendly high tech products and upholding Coway's trademark first - class product quality. More than 253 researchers work at Coway's R&D centers, with projects ranging from building water purification processes, creating an instant freezing and boiling system, designing modules for water purifiers, making products more compact, increasing product component durability and developing air purifiers that address indoor air quality problems.
Coway's R&D efforts have resulted in a number of award-winning innovative new products and technologies, such as water purifiers using reverse osmotic pressure, an automatically shifting 3-way valve. The Korean government even designated Coway's Water Quality Analysis Center as Korea's official potable water quality testing institution in 2002, which is the first time a private company earned such recognition. TUV SUD which is an international certification organization designates Coway as the official RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) testing institute water in 2007. It was also certified from WQA(Water Quality Association, USA) as Recognized Testing Laboratory and is running efficiency and safety tests on water related devices.
